Granada Cathedral, Andalusia Introduction
- Queen Isabella ordered the building to be constructed on the site of the Main Mosque
- The building work started very early in the 16th century and continued fir almost 2 centuries
- It is one of Spain's largest cathedrals.
- With different architects building the cathedral, style changes took place so that the exterior is Gothic, and the interior is a Renaissance masterpiece.
- The massive building actually contains 3 sections. All the sections are linked in the interior with the exception of:
- The door between The Cathedral & Royal Chapel is locked & you have to use the external doorway on the South West Side in Calle Oicios. A separate entry charge is made for entry

Description of The Royal Chapel
Royal Chapel of Granada (Capilla Real de Granada)
- The Royal Chapel Contains the remains of 4 monarchs, in 2 tombs
- The Catholic Monarchs, Queen Isabella & King Ferdinand in the lower in height tomb on the left as you view them through the railings.
- Joanna of Castile, daughter of, Isabella & Ferdinand, and her husband, Philip I of Castile
- The Tombs are located behind iron decorative railings
Location of Entrance to The Royal Chapel
- Entrance is located in a large alcove on the South West side of of the Cathedral in Calle Oicios.
- The Street has large Iron Gates at each end.
- The door facing you, see photograph above, as you look into the alcove, leads directly into the Royal Chapel, but the entrance & Ticket office is in the building on the left. The 2 doors are only 10m apart
